Welcome to Author PHILIP WDW
Philip WDW is a Belgian entrepreneur and author whose life story combines personal crisis, risk-taking, and unconventional business thinking.
His journey into entrepreneurship began during one of the most difficult periods of his life. After a devastating fire destroyed his apartment, Philip lost nearly everything he owned and spent months rebuilding his life from scratch. Living with minimal resources and sleeping on a mattress on the floor without electricity, he began reflecting on how small ideas can grow into opportunities.
During that period he noticed a simple but overlooked problem: millions of people were buying lottery tickets every week, yet the fragile paper tickets made it difficult to verify numbers and results. This observation led to the creation of DE LOTTOWIJZER ( THE LOTTOGUIDE), a practical tool designed to help lottery players check their tickets more easily.
What started as a simple prototype cut from cardboard with a kitchen knife eventually evolved into a business idea that reached thousands of points of sale. The experience exposed Philip to the realities of entrepreneurship: negotiations, partnerships, media attention, legal challenges, and the constant tension between risk and opportunity.
Today Philip WDW shares that story in his books. His work blends memoir and entrepreneurship, offering readers an inside look at how ideas emerge, how businesses are built from limited resources, and how setbacks often become the starting point for unexpected success.
His Dutch book “De Man Die De Lotto Vond” recounts the original story behind the Lottowijzer and the events that shaped his entrepreneurial journey. The international English edition, “From Mattress to Millions – How a $500 Idea Built a Lottery Empire,” expands that story for a global audience.
Through his writing, Philip explores themes of perseverance, creativity, and the unpredictable nature of business. His story shows that sometimes the most important ideas are born not in boardrooms, but in moments when everything else seems lost.
